Post-operative rehabilitation

Where remote care is suitable, progression follows the surgeon's protocol, function, strength and symptoms, with clear communication if concerns arise.

Goal: safe, staged return to everyday function
Why online?

Your home can be a useful assessment space.

You can show the exact chair, stairs, desk, gym movement or daily task that causes difficulty. Your physio can then make advice more relevant to the environment where you will actually use it.

Questions

Good healthcare should make things clear.

Many musculoskeletal presentations can be assessed and managed remotely using a detailed history, observation, movement testing, education and exercise. It is not suitable for every problem. Your physiotherapist will explain limitations and recommend face-to-face or other medical care when needed.
You will discuss your symptoms, health history, goals and relevant activities. The physiotherapist may guide you through safe movement tests on camera. You will then discuss findings, options and a plan, which is emailed to you afterwards.
Usually a phone, tablet or computer with video, enough room to show relevant movement, and ordinary household space. If exercise equipment is useful, your physio can adapt around what you have.
Choose a live slot, enter your details and you receive an email receipt straight away with a reference number. Your physiotherapist then confirms the appointment (usually the same day) and emails the secure video link and a calendar invitation. You can cancel from the link in your email.
New severe symptoms, significant trauma, rapidly worsening weakness, new bladder or bowel disturbance, numbness around the saddle area, chest pain, severe shortness of breath or other concerning systemic symptoms may need urgent medical assessment. Call 999 for an emergency or use NHS 111 when appropriate.
