Recovery after surgery, step by step.

Where your surgeon has approved remote follow-up, online physiotherapy provides structured, monitored rehabilitation that fits around the realities of recovering at home.

Good surgery deserves good rehabilitation. The weeks after an operation are when strength, range of motion and confidence are rebuilt, and a clear, progressive plan makes the difference between a satisfactory result and a great one.

Procedures we commonly support

  • Knee and hip replacement.
  • ACL and other ligament reconstructions.
  • Arthroscopic knee, hip and shoulder surgery.
  • Rotator cuff repair and shoulder stabilisation.
  • Achilles repair and ankle surgery.
  • Spinal decompression and discectomy.

How remote post-operative rehab works

Bring your surgeon's protocol or discharge letter to the first appointment. We align every phase with it, checking wound healing questions, swelling, range, strength and function on camera. Between appointments you follow a written programme with clear progression rules, and we adjust it as you respond. If anything concerns us, we tell you promptly and liaise with your surgical team where appropriate.

Contact your surgical team or NHS 111 urgently if you haveincreasing redness, heat or discharge from the wound, fever, calf pain or swelling, chest pain or breathlessness, or a sudden loss of movement or strength. These need in-person medical review.

What you will need at home

  • Space to move safely and a stable chair or worktop for support.
  • Simple equipment such as a resistance band and a step; we adapt around what you have.
  • Your surgical paperwork and any restrictions or weight-bearing instructions.

How long does rehab take?

It depends on the procedure: typically 6 to 12 weeks for arthroscopic surgery, 3 to 6 months for joint replacement, and 9 to 12 months for ACL reconstruction before return to pivoting sport. Appointment frequency reduces as you become more independent.
